Case Studies
Case Study – Client A
Client A is a long established company largely family owned. Whilst being consistently profitable Client A was gradually but consistently losing market share to its competitors, and goodwill to the Client was at risk of becoming marginalised as customers sought to reduce their supply bases and concentrate buying power. The Client recognised this, but was extremely reluctant to work with consultants.
By demonstrating that Catalyst are hands-on, passionate and committed (and most importantly showing them that we have real world experience of businesses just like theirs) Client A asked us to help them work through the issues and identify a plan to prioritise the actions (we avoided the word strategy and talked about plans and actions, language they and other small business understand). This proved relatively easy because the Client was open and forthcoming, and we loved working with them. Our relationship was originally intended to conclude at this point, however it seemed natural for us to continue to work hand-in-hand to deliver the strategy, which has been achieved. Their market share has grown substantially, they are recognised as an innovative and company once again, and most importantly their profitability has increased substantially, both via higher revenue and the more efficient application of its fixed overheads.
Case Study – Client B
Client B had a long term relationship and mutually beneficial relationship with a household brand under which it manufactured and sold licensed products. The terms of the agreement required a substantial fixed payment for the use of the brand, however, due to Covid-19 demand and therefore revenue fell off a cliff. Our clients initial requests to renegotiate the terms of the agreement were, perhaps understandably, firmly but politely rebuffed. The client was determined to maintain good relations with its partner recognising the long term benefits of the relationship, and was reluctant to do anything to compromise. However, due to the gravity of the situation and the impact it would have on profits we were approached to see if we could assist. We were eventually able to negotiate an agreement whereby the fee was reduced by a substantial six figure sum, whilst maintaining the support and long-term commitment of all parties involved, which was critical to our client.
